One year of Eye Care!

It has officially been one year since the Salina Family Healthcare Eye Center opened! It’s so exciting to serve our patients in yet another way. We truly believe that the best health comes when your medical provider, dentist, therapist, pharmacist, and optometrist are all working together.

In celebration of the Eye Care Center’s first birthday, we wanted to share some of our new, super techy devices that could be used to help us serve your eye care needs.

First, the Lensometer.  With this machine, we can scan your eyeglass lenses, or even contacts, to see what your old prescription is! So, no worries if you forgot or don’t have your old prescription.

The next tool that helps us determine your prescription is our new Autorefractor. You’ve probably used this one before in many other optometrist offices. In non-technical terms, the machine looks into your eyes and estimates your prescription and gives the doctor a place to start. It will not puff air at you!

This next machine, the OCT (which stands for Optical Coherence Tomography) machine does many different scans. It can check for conditions such as Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy, holes, tears, and more. This machine is only used if a patient has or is suspected to have a condition that the doctor wants to get a closer look at.

Quite possibly the most unique new machine is this Virtual Reality Visual Fields machine. Our patients who need to do these long tests will like how you can strap this on like any other virtual reality goggles and it will walk you through vision tests. The machine tracks your eye movement, gives encouragement, and allows us to monitor what you are seeing while testing. If that wasn’t cool enough, it also has the ability to speak in several languages! Did you know anything like this existed?

If you squinted to read any of this or if you just think it’s time for a regular checkup, we’d love to have you check out these machines for yourself. Give us a call at 785-823-3937 to schedule an appointment.
