Thierry T. Tchiengue, MD
Resident Physician
Dr Thierry T. Tchiengue is the oldest child to a hardworking family in Bangangte, Cameroon. Dr. Tchiengue’s interest in medicine started early, with helping to care for his six siblings. The combination of taking a caregiving role, plus a love of biological systems sparked his initial interest in medicine.
“I made the decision to become a doctor after seeing health disparities in my town and how healthcare workers in general and doctors in particular were having a significant impact in people live,” he said. “The idea of being a part of a profession focused on helping others regardless of circumstance, focused on facilitating people leading healthier and therefore happier lives is my drive.”
He started his career in medicine at the University of Bamako in Mali at the Faculty of Medicine. While in medical school, Dr. Tchiengue was on the honor roll 4 of his 7 years and graduated with first class honors. He also holds several Army medals: 3 Achievement Medals, 2 Commendation Medals, a Humanitarian Service Medical, and a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Plus, he also has a Nursing license!
Dr. Tchiengue’s favorite thing about being a family physician is the variety – “I can be doing deliveries at any point during the day between well child visits and following up patients with chronic medical conditions and consultation of novel outpatients,” he says. Dr. Tchiengue wants patients to know that he is personable, a great listener, and has empathy for any patient concerns.
When he’s not working, Dr. Tchiengue likes doing Community Empowerment work, personal finance education, gardening, and any sports, but especially soccer!
