Resident Physician

Lewis Hutfles Jr., DO, is from Kansas’ State Capitol, Topeka. His medical journey began at the University of Missouri in Kansas City with an undergraduate degree in Biology. He decided to become a physician because of his strong values of working with and helping others. His education continued at Kansas City University with a Master’s in Biosciences and finally onto Kansas City University for medical school.

“Throughout my medical school, I enjoyed all my rotations, specifically psychiatry and surgery,” he said. “Family medicine was a perfect avenue for me to incorporate both aspects of psychiatry and surgery to apply those skills to helping patients in an all-encompassing manor.”

Having observed the need for physicians in rural Kansas, Dr. Hutfles has a passion for rural medicine. His favorite thing about his job is the unique position it puts him in to always put a patient first – “Regardless of the disease or pathology each patient presents with, our focus is to fully understand our patients in order to better serve their needs.” These meaningful, professional relationships are what makes being a physician so rewarding for him.

When he’s not on the job, Dr. Hutfles enjoys being with his family and living out his faith. His hidden talent – long jump! Dr. Hutfles is happily married to Ashley, an elementary school art teacher. They have an eight-year-old son who they love to enjoy sushi and cheering on the Chiefs and Royals with!
