Kate Behan, LMSW, PhD
Behaviorist/ OCK Care Coordinator
Kate Behan, LMSW, PhD, is from Stony Brook, New York on Long Island. She attended Radford University in Virginia for her Bachelor’s degree, before attending Eastern Washington University in Cheney, WA for her Master’s and Oregon State University in Corvallis, OR for her Doctorate.
Kate is very interested in how people deal with interpersonal relationships and societal pressures. She is especially interested in how various systems affect an individual and their relationships. If you ask her, Kate’s favorite thing about her job is “meeting lots of people and constantly being busy.” Kate specializes in working with people and families who have been affected by intimate/family violence and trauma.
“As a social worker, I take a person-in-environment approach to working with individuals and families,” says Kate.
“This means that to understand an individual’s thought processes, emotions, and behavior, you must understand what environmental/social factors are affecting that person at the individual, relational, community, and societal levels. This helps identify both problems and natural protective supports within and outside the individual to promote resiliency and healing.”
In Kate’s free time, she likes to read, listen to books/podcasts, spending time with her loved ones, gardening, canning, making jewelry, and volunteering in the community. As a fun fact, Kate has lived on the East and West Coasts, along with the South and the Midwest! She has visited every state except New Mexico, Oklahoma, and South Dakota.
