Kate Behan, LMSW, PhD, is from Stony Brook, New York on Long Island. She attended Radford University in Virginia for her Bachelor’s degree, before attending Eastern Washington University in Cheney, WA for her Master’s and Oregon State University in Corvallis, OR for her Doctorate. She has resided in Salina, KS for the past 14 years.
Kate is interested in how people deal with interpersonal relationships and societal pressures. She is especially interested in how various systems affect an individual and their relationships. If you ask her, Kate’s favorite thing about her job is “meeting lots of people and constantly being busy.” Kate specializes in working with people and families who have been affected by intimate/family violence and trauma. She has experience working with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, chronic pain, trauma, anger management, and gender dysphoria.
“As a social worker, I take a person-in-environment approach to working with individuals from adolescents through adults,” says Kate.
“This means that to understand an individual’s thought processes, emotions, and behavior, you must understand what environmental/social factors are affecting that person at the individual, relational, community, and societal levels. This helps identify both problems and natural protective supports within and outside the individual to promote resiliency and healing.”
Away from work, Kate enjoys gardening; canning; reading; crafting; listening to audiobooks and podcasts; volunteering in the community; and spending time with family and friends.
Areas of Focus:
•Trauma/PTSD
•Solutions-focused approach
•Individual growth and acceptance
