BLS (Basic Life Support) or Heartsaver?
BLS trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilation and provide early use of an AED.
Designed for healthcare professionals & other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility & prehospital settings.
Expect to learn: high-quality CPR for all ages, the AHA Chain of Survival (specifically BLS components), early use of an AED, effective ventilations using a barrier device, importance of teams in multirescuer resuscitation and CPR, & relief of foreign body airway obstruction (choking) for adults, children, and infants.
Cost of $50 for 2-year certification through the American Heart Association. Optional student workbook – $21.
Heartsaver courses are designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for their job, regulatory (for example, OSHA), or other requirements.
Heartsaver courses are ideal for workforce employees (for example construction, childcare, health & fitness, hospitality, and more) or for those who want to be prepared for an emergency.
Expect to learn: identification of life-threatening medical or traumatic injuries, basic first aid response for emergencies, standard precautions to protect against bloodborne pathogens, high-quality CPR for all ages, important early use of an AED, relief of foreign body airway obstruction (choking) for adults, children and infants.
