Grant Enhances Dental Care for Underserved Children!

This past year, SFHC was awarded a $35,850 grant through the Salina Regional Health Foundation's Community Health Investment Program.  Grant funding was used to purchase a nitrous oxide delivery system at the SFHC dental clinic and also for the purchase of dental equipment to be used at Salina Regional Health Center for patients needing to undergo general anesthesia for more extensive dental treatment. SFHC is one of only a few dental clinics in the area that openly accepts uninsured children and those with KanCare. Previously, if a child needed dental work under sedation or general anesthesia, they were referred to offices over an hour away. By providing these services in our own community, we eliminate the extra burden of traveling long distances to receive this very important dental care.

*** Grant Funding to Enhance Access to Adult Flu Vaccines and School-based Dental Services ***

In August, SFHC was awarded a $9,753 grant through the Salina Regional Health Foundation’s Community Health Investment Program.

SFHC plans to use this funding to purchase influenza vaccinations for our adult uninsured and discount program patients. Often times, the cost of the vaccine is the primary barrier to uninsured adults receiving immunizations. This funding will support vaccinating 200 adult patients that would be unlikely to afford the cost of the flu vaccine on their own.

Additionally, funding will be used to purchase fluoride varnish, floss picks and dental cleaning supplies for our school based dental outreach program.Salina Regional Health Foundation’s generous support allows us to provide these cleanings to children, regardless of their ability to pay.
